Role in CARE Study

I serve as one of the Principal Investigators of the CARE Study. I created the HEROES intervention, a preventive program for caregivers and children, through a process of community-based participatory research with key stakeholders from youth-serving organizations, community leaders, parents, and youth. Based in Pediatrics at the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics (SBNC), we offer the HEROES program to families in both English and Spanish. Learn more about Dr. Kia-Keating. The 4-session program supports caregivers with resources, provides them with a foundation of knowledge about brain development, adverse childhood experiences, and protective factors, and teaches mindfulness and parent-child communication and relational attunement.

Why I’m Excited About CARE

I’m honored to work with an incredible collaborative team that is transforming the way that we address ACEs and focuses on strength-based interventions to enhance resilience for children and families.
